I moved 3,500 miles to work at Resolution Games

At Resolution Games our team is made of individuals from around the world. In fact, our colleagues represent 22 countries. Today, we’re catching up with our Producer Parvathy who moved 3,500 miles to live in Stockholm.

Where did you move from and why?

I moved here from India with my partner, who had gotten a job in Stockholm. We were both very excited about the move, because a quick online search showed us that this city is the haven for game development and cinnamon rolls (kanelbullar). Even though we relocated at the height of the pandemic, the whole process went smoothly, and a month after settling in I started hunting for jobs.

What attracted you to Resolution Games?

When Resolution Games popped up on my feed, I was intrigued to find a studio that had been focusing on VR and AR for years already.  Then I read up on the culture, and was immediately hooked! Here was a studio that believed gaming was for everyone, and rejected the problematic gatekeeping mentality some have against ‘casual’ gaming. The gaming community has been quick to dismiss casual gamers in recent times, which is terribly unfair - games should be for everyone, regardless of age, gender identity, or why they play games in the first place.

My grandmother is a sweet little lady who has never lived anywhere except for my tiny state in South India. I remember how happy she was when I taught her how to play Snake on her sturdy little Nokia phone back in 2000-something. Later when smartphones became a thing, she got upgraded to Sudoku and Carroms, and now, she has an 11-inch tablet to play match-three and point-and-click games in all their glory. The point is - my grandma has always been a gamer in my eyes, and Resolution Games seemed to be the kind of place that would agree with this sentiment. I was convinced that this was where I wanted to be.

Can you give a brief overview of your role?

I work as a game producer. It’s hard to describe what the role entails exactly. You know those mini-games where you have to run around wildly to catch fruit that’s falling from the sky without letting any of it hit the ground, because if it does, the planet explodes?

That’s kind of what being a game producer is like, only instead of fruit, it’s people, tasks, and goals. You need to make sure everyone and everything remains on track so your team can build an awesome game, and develop an extrasensory foresight of potential pitfalls so that you can address them before they happen. And if all this sounds very dramatic and alarming, that’s not my intention - I love my job, and all the fun of turning chaos into...well, organized chaos.

At Resolution, the chaos is lovingly brewed. I’ve been in the industry for nearly 10 years and I’ve never worked with people as talented and dedicated as the team here - and everyday I’ve spent here I’ve been humbled by how much more I have to learn from everyone!

What would you say to someone thinking of joining Resolution Games?

Everyday at Resolution I’ve been met with new challenges that force me to think and apply myself. It’s a fast paced place, where everyone has a lot of ideas and is passionate about VR gaming. There’s so much creativity and spirit here, and it’s absolutely contagious! As someone who started working remotely in a brand new country, jumped into a project that was already in production and had to rally a team of people they could only see through a computer screen, I assure you - Resolution Games is the most warm and welcoming company you could ever ask for.

So if you’re thinking of joining Resolution, all I ask is: what are you waiting for? Check out our current openings here.
