What Is It Like to Intern At Resolution Games?

It’s not at all unusual for some people to get valuable hands-on experience or even land a position at their favorite company through an internship. But what is it like to intern at Resolution Games? Today we are talking to a few of our current and former interns to discuss their experience.

Ece:

Hi! My name is Ece and I am a 3D Artist Intern here at Resolution Games. I have a 3D art background specializing in mostly environments. I started my internship at Resolution in September 2021 and you can see me wandering around, getting hyped up for a project or nerding about different types of tea!

How did you get started as an intern at Resolution Games?

My school, Futuregames, has a six-month LiA period where we train ourselves while working in the industry. I first came across Resolution Games in a meet and greet day at school. The meeting was great and then I got an internship offer!

Why did you choose Resolution Games?

I was interested in Resolution Games because of the varied VR and AR games in their portfolio. I met a few of the talented and amazing people working here during my interviews and the thought of working with them was very intriguing. Additionally, Resolution Games is one of the most diverse VR and AR companies, both in their people and culture and in their games. Their openness to new ideas shows, when you look at all the games they have released. Also who doesn’t want to work in VR?

What is the best part of your internship?

The best part of my internship is definitely being a part of a team. I have one assigned mentor but the whole team has been great about teaching me throughout my internship. I love working with my talented teammates. And the best feeling is to see the whole production coming together, from all the different disciplines. It’s been fun to see how awesome games are made with great teams.

What have you learned so far, or are excited about learning in the future?

I am beyond excited for the future! I have learned to manage a healthy relationship with deadlines. When working on personal projects, I used to be too hard on myself - always pressuring myself. What I learned and improved for myself, in my opinion, is to convert that pressure into motivation that isn’t going to cause me stress but a boost to keep improving. Working in a team reminds you that there are always solutions to problems. It gives you a boost of confidence to explore, but also security that your team has your back and any problem will be solved.

What tips would you give to people looking for an internship at Resolution Games?

Be true to yourself in the interviews. Other than the technical skills, it is going to be you who is going to work with your teammates and everyone wants a pleasant person to work with. I want to also remind all the stressing 3D artists out there, remember we don’t fail as artists, we only learn another way of doing things. So keep improving, be yourself and know what you are looking for.

Are there any extra thoughts or comments you would like to share?

An internship is really a priceless experience. The feeling is similar to being an expat and having to move to another country. Of course you have some knowledge of how things would work, but until you see or live in it, you don’t actually know it. I would have never gotten to this level of experience with student projects or personal projects. LiA IS about the experience. So put yourself out there and live this experience, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

Debora:

Hello! I’m Debora, a former professional in Web Communication now studying full-time Interaction Design in Stockholm. As far as I know, UX-UI Design wasn’t that much of a thing when I first started my university studies more than 10 years ago, or I wasn’t aware of it anyways, so I got my Master’s in International Relations. Luckily I happened to work with UX Designers when I moved to Sweden and this made me take the decision to study again to pursue my dream career!

How did you get started as an intern at Resolution Games?

It was planned by my school to have a six-month internship period as part of my education program. So, I started looking for a place that could match my interests while also giving me good training in a field of Interaction Design that is very unique, VR and AR games. And there’s no better place to do this than at Resolution Games!

Why did you choose Resolution Games?

The short answer is because I’m a crazy fan of Angry Birds and I got obsessed with the mobile AR Angry Birds game by Resolution - Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs. The other side of the story is that I’ve been following the company on social media and its blog for a while and it seemed a very lovely place to work at.

What is a typical day like for you as an intern?

I start every morning by aligning with my supervisor to get new tasks and instructions or for him to review the work that I’ve done the day before. Once I’m fully onboarded with the new assignments I go straight to work on Figma or Unity. If I’m home, I usually work with some background music. If I’m in the office I like to occasionally chat with my team and plan for the lunch we will have together.

What is the best part of your internship?

Overall it is the amazing atmosphere at the office. I’m surrounded and inspired by the talented people who work at the company and who are helping teach me new skills. I couldn’t ask for a better environment. I especially couldn’t ask for a better mentor. He leads me, challenges me and allows room for mistakes and improvements. The UI team is amazing!

What have you learned so far, or are excited about learning in the future?

I learned to use Unity and it was the most challenging learning experience for me so far. I’m also excited to continue to improve my skills with the platform because there are endless creative possibilities you can make with it. While I have felt frustrated with the coding part sometimes, I’ve also felt inspired in creating more and more things. The satisfaction when everything works out in the end is priceless!

Do you have any specific tasks or goals that you aim to accomplish during your internship?

I’m planning to develop my own little mini-game as my final graduation project, so all my efforts are focused on that. But on a bigger level, I’d like to leave a positive mark on Resolution Games since my internship, my colleagues and the company as a whole has become an important part of my education. I strongly believe that an internship should be as beneficial for the company as it is for the intern.

What tips would you give to people looking for an internship at Resolution?

Go ahead and apply! Explain what you can bring to the company and why Resolution would be the right place for you. If your soul and ambition matches the company’s spirit you will surely hear back from them. Good luck!

Anita:

Hi my name is Anita and I’m a full-time student here in Stockholm studying Human Resource Management. I’ve always had a huge professional interest in keeping people safe, happy and healthy while they work and as a casual gamer myself I have an extra soft spot for fellow gamers.

How did you get started as an intern at Resolution Games?

My university does not offer any practical work experience as a part of the education, so I decided that was something I did not want to miss out on. I made up my mind to find a part-time job on the side of my studies where I could really learn about the company and upgrade my theoretical knowledge to practical skills.

Why did you choose Resolution Games?

I had a few places in mind when looking for a possible part-time job and knew for certain that I wanted to be in the games industry. When I came across the Resolutions Games jobs page, I looked around and got a really good feeling. I’ve always been curious about VR gaming and the people behind it and thought, why not apply?

What is a typical day like for you as an intern?

What I love about interning at Resolution is that no day is the same. Some days I get to shadow and assist my more experienced colleagues. Other days I’m entrusted with independent projects where I get to do a lot of research and be creative in formulating new ideas, processes and initiatives.

What is the best part of your internship?

The best part is everything I am learning. I’m surrounded by such knowledgeable and passionate people in a bunch of different fields, and getting to know them and learn from them has been really exciting and motivating. There is really something special about the Resolution mindset that I haven’t experienced before and I feel really lucky to be a part of it.

What have you learned so far, or are excited about learning in the future?

Because of the pandemic I’ve learned a lot about handling big organizational changes and internal communication. There is so much work that goes into creating those conditions where people can do their best work. Everyone is so different in terms of what they want and need. It’s been a really interesting challenge.

Do you have any specific tasks or goals that you aim to accomplish during your internship?

My personal goal was to learn as much as possible but also to pursue further opportunities at Resolution Games. I didn’t want my internship to end! As it was nearing a close I was offered the fantastic opportunity to go from intern to a part-timer while I am still continuing with my studies. Which I excitedly accepted! So now I have new goals to work towards.

What tips would you give to people looking for an internship at Resolution Games?

My first and most important tip is to apply even if there isn’t an internship position being advertised. Don’t be afraid to present yourself first and tell them what you are looking for because you might be a perfect fit!

We’ve had so many incredible interns over the years and are excited to welcome many more. If you’re interested in interning with us apply here.
